Australian farmers lend a helping hand to Baloch farmers

Australian farmers lend a helping hand to Baloch farmers

Two Australian farmers from the small town of Cooma in New South Wales, Australia, recently travelled to Quetta in Balochistan to help Balochistan farmers learn new techniques in sheep shearing. Rowan McDonald and Pat McDonald (no relation) conducted hands-on training workshops with more than 20 local farmers, passing on their skills and knowledge of sheep shearing, sheep management, and handling wool.

By using better equipment and shearing techniques, Balochistan farmers can increase the amount of wool harvested by 30 per cent – boosting their incomes considerably.

Local farmers were delighted to meet Rowan and Pat, and eagerly followed their training advice. Using a ‘Train the Trainer’ model, the farmers will pass on the knowledge to their communities.

The program is managed by the FAO and funded by USAid.
