Partner Migration Checklist

For applicants lodging Spouse, Prospective Spouse and Interdependency visa applications at the Australian High Commission, Islamabad, Pakistan

Important: To ensure that your Partner application is processed as quickly as possible, please attach a copy of this checklist together with all of the supporting documentation listed. You will need to provide the original and a photocopy of each document listed. All original documents will be returned to you when your application is finalised.

 Completed form 47SP, signed by the applicant

 Completed form 40SP, signed by the sponsor

 Completed form 80 for all applicants included in the application aged 16 years or older, signed by the applicant/s. Applicants who will be turning 16 within a short time of lodging the application should also provide a completed and signed Form 80. Please ensure that all applicable questions are fully answered.

 Bank draft in Pakistan Rupees for the correct fee, made payable to the Australian High Commission Islamabad; or receipt of payment made in Australia (http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/partner.htm)

 Four (4) recent passport-size photographs of the main applicant and all dependents (if applicable), with the name/s written on the back of each photo. Head covering should not be worn. Digitally altered photographs are not acceptable

 Birth certificate for each applicant. If the birth certificate was not registered at the time of birth, school records should also be provided. Afghan applicants should provide their original taskera, and Pakistani applicants should provide their National Identity Card and a copy of their Form B from NADRA.

 A photocopy of the personal particulars page of all applicants’ passports

 If any child is migrating without one of their parents, you must provide permission from the non-migrating parent for that child to travel, plus a copy of that parent’s NIC or passport containing their signature

 Evidence that the sponsor is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen (eg passport, citz. cert.)

 If the sponsor is an eligible New Zealand citizen, they must also undergo a medical examination and provide penal clearances from Australia and New Zealand. Instructions on how to obtain these will be provided when they are required.

 If the sponsor and visa applicant are married, the original official marriage certificate or Nikah Nama, along with a translation from a NAATI accredited translator.

 Evidence of the sponsor’s income. This should preferably be the last two income tax assessment notices from the Australian Tax Office. If this is not available, other evidence that the sponsor is able to support the applicant/s, and that the applicant and/or sponsor has good employment prospects in Australia

 Evidence that the sponsor and applicant are in a married or defacto relationship, and the duration of that relationship. See the Partner migration booklet for examples

 Individual statements from both the sponsor and the applicant outlining the history and development of their relationship

 If the sponsor or applicant were previously married to anyone else, the death/divorce decree absolute or annulment papers to prove the termination of the previous relationship/s. If these are not available, a written statement must be provided for each relationship, explaining why these are not available

 Penal clearances from ALL countries that visa applicant/s aged 16 years or older have stayed in for 12 months or longer in the last 10 years. Please see form 47P at www.immi.gov.au for further instruction. These should be arranged before lodging the visa application.


If applying for a Prospective Spouse (Fiancée) visa, you will need:

 Evidence that the sponsor and applicant have met and are personally known to one another – eg photos, travel records, hotel receipts, letters, phone bills, etc

 A letter from an authorised marriage celebrant indicating that a Notice of Intended Marriage has been lodged in Australia


If you are applying on the basis of a de facto marriage or interdependent relationship with an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, you must also provide:

 Evidence that the sponsor and the applicant have been in the relationship for a minimum of 12 months before the application is lodged, and that they have lived together for that time, or if not, that any separation was temporary
